SERGEANT GEORGE BAMBOROUGH (1900-1947) George Bamborough was born in Queen Anne Street, Heaton, in 1900 and worked in the Sylvan Jam factory on Benton Road. He married Connie Elwood in 1928 but they had no children. George and Connie lived in Cleveland Gardens, High Heaton during WW2. George was one of the of the original No 5 Platoon, No 2 Company volunteers in 1940 and by January 1941 he was "C" Company No 1 Section Commander. From September 1941 he held the rank of Sergeant. An unassuming but loyal member of the company, carried out his duties in an efficient manner. A fine shot, he also specialised in anti-gas methods. CORPORAL NICHOLAS WILLIAM JOBE BAGNALL (May 1923 - ) Nicholas Bagnall lived in Salisbury Terrace in Byker and worked at "Motor Bodies" on Warwick St in Heaton as a Panel Beater. He joined the Home Guard at Headlam St Police Station on 10th Dec 1940. He served as a rifleman in the Battle Drill platoon and also in 11 platoon. After the war he worked at Minories Engineering on the Team Valley as a Rate Fixer and then at Thermal Syndicate in the Planning and Purchasing departments. PRIVATE LAURENCE BONSER (1904-1984) Laurence Bonser lived at Beatrice road in Heaton and worked in the photographic section of Brady and Martin, a chemist in Newcastle. He joined the L.D.V. at Heaton Manor School in May 1940. He then volunteered for the R.A.F. and was posted to North Africa and worked on photo reconnaisscance aircraft. At the end of the war he opened and managed a photographic shop, Bonsers in the Bigg Market area of Newcastle.
