In compiling this most excellent and inspiring History of "C" Company, 12th Battalion Northumberland Home Guard, Captain Cyril Browne has placed on record undying memories of those anxious but happy days of which we are all justly proud. Captain Browne, when a very young soldier in the 1914 - 18 war, was most severely wounded, resulting in the loss of a leg, and other injuries. Notwithstanding this terrible experience and manifest handicap, he was amongst the first volunteers in May 1940, and served from begining to end with zeal, determination and tireless efficiency and was an inspiring example to all members of the Company.
